High chaparral the hostage11/9/2022
He told me that he’d placed a bet on EVERY dog in the race. High chaparral the hostage full#When we got back to our seats, I noticed that Cam had a fist full of tickets. I went to the betting window and bet $2.00 on one dog. High chaparral the hostage how to#When we arrived, Cam showed me how to figure the odds on the dogs and which ones to bet on. One evening, Cam called our apartment in Tucson and asked Melinda if he could “borrow Mark for good luck.” Cam loved to gamble and wanted to go to the local greyhound dog track. He’d pulled off the road and “joined’ a foursome already in progress. He was dressed in a black frontier cowboy costume. Thereon a green next to the highway, were five golfers. While driving back toward town, I passed one of the local golf courses and noticed something strange. One day, while filming in Old Tucson, Cam finished early and got into his car, still dressed in his black Uncle Buck costume. Thinking, of course, if the man could hit a good drive with the club, it would certainly work for him. If he played with a golfer who hit a particularly god drive, Cam would buy the club from him. His garage was lined with hundreds of golf clubs that he’d collected over the years. “Ĭam was an avid … no … fanatical golfer. Just went on as if nothing at all were unusual … “Holding court. So, he just got up, went to the phone and ordered a complete, full course meal from an outside restaurant and had it delivered to his table in the commissary. “Hey Blue boy! Get your butt over here!” … One particular day, Cam didn’t like any of the fare on the commissary menu, but wanted to continue the discussion going on at the table. When we were filming at Paramount Studios, we would usually eat lunch in the studio commissary where Cameron would routinely “hold court” at a table by shouting to anyone who he recognized to join him. I remember a few instances that were typically “Cameron Mitchell” that I’d like to share with you. High chaparral the hostage series#Although we have not had much contact with Cam since the series ended, our memories of that time together are still quite vivid. During the time I worked with Cam on the series, we both grew quite fond of him. Mark Slade Remembersīoth my wife, Melinda, and I were saddened to hear that Cameron Mitchell has passed away. Thank you to Kathy Lewis, Michele Simmons, and of course Mark Slade for providing it to the Newsletter. The following letter was originally sent to members of the Mark Slade Fan club for their newsletter. LIKE THE HIGH CHAPARRAL REUNION ON FACEBOOK:

Boa constrictor habitat11/9/2022 BOA CONSTRICTOR HABITAT SERIESFor example, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission hosts a series of events called Exotic Pet Amnesty Days. While nature centers and zoos will not take snakes from pet owners, some local agencies use innovative strategies to address the impacts of invasive species, such as the boa constrictor. There are now breeding populations of boa constrictors across southern Florida that are predating at-risk species into extinction. The introduction of boa constrictors and other large, nonnative snakes into southern Florida has had devastating consequences on habitats that are already under immense pressure due to human development, the dispersal of nonnative species and climate change. Because boa constrictors are habitat generalists with the ability to vary their choice of prey, they can do well in the places where they are introduced, as long as the temperature conditions allow for their survival. While the pet trade may not necessarily be a threat to this animal, their trade can pose a threat to other animals. In many unfortunate cases, an owner will simply release a boa constrictor that has grown too large into a local park or open area. People also breed boa constrictors, often producing snakes with more vibrant colors than their wild counterparts. While this snake's status in the wild has not been assessed to determine the impact of the pet trade on populations, many boa constrictors are imported into the U.S. They are also common in the pet trade, though pet owners are often unaware of how quickly they grow from a small neonate to a large adult. Some homes even bring constrictors inside to prevent or quell rodent infestations. Humans and boa constrictors have a somewhat mutually beneficial relationship in many parts of tropical America, where they are valued pest controllers. They are hunted and collected for their skin, which is considered exotic in many parts of the world. They are listed under CITES Appendix II, and the subspecies B. Instead, this animal relies on its tongue and its excellent vision to collect sensory information about its surroundings (like other snakes do).īoa constrictors have not been assessed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Larger members of the Boidae family have heat-sensitive pits on their heads, but boa constrictors do not. By keeping blood from flowing to the brain, the animal dies. Once the snake has its body wrapped around the prey, it squeezes just enough to cause a “circulatory arrest” by cutting off the ability of the heart to pump blood in and out. It is commonly believed that boa constrictors subdue their prey by crushing their bones or squeezing their lungs to suffocate them, but recent research on the constriction method revealed that these snakes employ a different strategy all together. BOA CONSTRICTOR HABITAT FREETheir teeth are small and hooked, which allows for a strong grip when the snake strikes its prey and prevents the prey from wiggling free while the snake wraps its powerful body around the victim. The body can be tan, green, red, or yellow and will have cryptic patterns that form bars, jagged lines, diamonds, and circles. In fact, in some places in South America, boa constrictors are used to control rat infestations inside homes.ĭepending on the habitat that a boa constrictor occupies, its patterns and coloring vary to allow it to camouflage. While many others may be afraid of boa constrictors, there are very few cases of them attacking humans even human babies are too large to be suitable prey for boa constrictors.

Video of blackhole11/8/2022 Scientists can't see black holes the way they can see stars and other objects in space. The inner region of a black hole, where the object's mass lies, is known as its singularity, the single point in space-time where the mass of the black hole is concentrated. Gravity is constant across the event horizon. Once a particle crosses the event horizon, it cannot leave. The event horizon of a black hole is the boundary around the mouth of the black hole, past which light cannot escape. (Image credit: EHT Collaboration) (opens in new tab) What do black holes look like?īlack holes have three "layers": the outer and inner event horizon, and the singularity. Polarization is a signature of magnetic fields and the image makes it clear that the black hole's ring is magnetized.įollowing the release of the first image of a black hole in 2019, astronomers captured a new polarized view of the black hole. As polarized light waves have a different orientation and brightness compared to unpolarized light, the new image shows the black hole in even more detail. In 2021, astronomers revealed a new view of the giant black hole at the center of M87, showing what the colossal structure looks like in polarized light. It also opens up a whole new area of research in black holes, now that astronomers know what a black hole looks like. The image maps the sudden loss of photons (particles of light). The EHT saw the black hole in the center of galaxy M87 while the telescope was examining the event horizon or the area past which nothing can escape from a black hole. In 2019 the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration released the first image ever recorded of a black hole. (Image credit: EHT Collaboration) (opens in new tab) The Event Horizon Telescope, a planet-scale array of eight ground-based radio telescopes forged through international collaboration, captured this image of the supermassive black hole in the center of the galaxy M87 and its shadow. Related: How many black holes are there in the universe? Black hole images Not only does the black hole candidate reside in the constellation Monoceros ("the unicorn"), its incredibly low mass - about three times that of the sun - makes it nearly one of a kind. The closest black hole to Earth is dubbed " The Unicorn" and is situated approximately 1,500 light-years away. Though detecting black holes is a difficult task and estimates from NASA (opens in new tab) suggest there could be as many as 10 million to a billion stellar black holes in the Milky Way. Since the Milky Way contains over 100 billion stats, our home galaxy must harbor some 100 million black holes. (Image credit: NASA/UMass/D.Wang et al., IR: NASA/STScI) (opens in new tab)Īccording to the Space Telescope Science Institute (opens in new tab) (STScI) approximately one out of every thousand stars is massive enough to become a black hole. At the center of the Milky Way lies a supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*).

Bob moog soundsource problme11/8/2022 A Moog modular synthesizer from the 1960s. As they warmed up, the synthesizers drifted out of tune. Moog’s early voltage-controlled oscillators, which produce the raw electrical waveforms, were susceptible to current fluctuations from the electric grid and to temperature changes. That was despite its temperamental nature. But the high quality captivated musicians. It was not the first synthesizer–a point that Moog-Koussa herself emphasizes. The device was capable of producing over 250,000 sounds. In 1964, he built his first “portable electronic music composition system,” later dubbed a synthesizer. Unlike the college-dropout entrepreneurs of Silicon Valley, Moog stayed in school–earning a PhD in physics from Cornell in 1965, while continuing his theremin business. The Moogseum’s Learning Synthesis interactive exhibit. “And that’s just one of our lessons, out of 10.” “We have 13,000 young children who can read waveforms and explain to you the variances in pitch and volume,” says Moog-Koussa. The 10-week curriculum now reaches about 3,000 second-graders a year in western North Carolina. This would extend the foundation’s regional education program, Doctor Bob’s Sound School, which began in 2011. It’s finalizing the design for the ThereScope, a battery-powered device that combines a theremin, amplifier, and oscilloscope to visualize the electrical waveforms behind sounds.Ī prototype of the ThereScope, an educational device for grade school students. The foundation she leads has an ambitious plan to bring hands-on education to schools across the country. “Our work in education and archives preservation, and now with the Moogseum, will extend way beyond people who play synthesizers,” she says. Moog-Koussa isn’t just trying to cater to people who are already familiar with her father’s work. Three Moog theremins are on display in the museum. Invented by Léon Theremin in the 1920s and a staple of sci-fi classics like The Day the Earth Stood Still, the instrument allows players to create eerie tones by moving their hands through electrical fields. He developed that feel when he started building and selling theremins, beginning at age 14 or 15 (Moog said both in different interviews). One of the vintage Moog theremins on display at the Moogseum. The Moogseum packs a lot into its 1,400 square feet, including iconic instruments like the Minimoog Model D and Minimoog Voyager synthesizers, an interactive timeline of synth technology from 1898 to today, and a replica of Moog’s workbench. The Minimoog Model D consolidated modular synthesizers into a compact instrument that remains popular today. “It was like the sound of the future.” Indeed it was: Today, Moog synthesizers are standard kit for many leading musicians, from Kanye to Lady Gaga. “We’re transforming their voices and turning trash cans into drum kits, and we’re sounding like aliens just when we cough.”īut “when we first heard the sound of a Moog synthesizer in the late ’60s and early ’70s. “Nothing fazes the students now,” says Richard Boulanger, professor of electronic production and design at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and a protégée of both Moog and Pearlman. With today’s software-defined digital media, it’s harder to appreciate the naked physics of early electronic music and the radical transformation that manipulating these forces enabled. Moog also collaborated with other inventors–including digital music pioneer Max Mathews and even rival synth maker Alan Pearlman (who died in January). His synthesizers found incredibly diverse applications–from Herb Deutsch’s avant-garde compositions to Bernie Worrell’s funkadelic jams to Wendy Carlos’s classical music blockbuster Switched on Bach. He became a celebrity, and people used “Moog” (which rhymes with “vogue”) as a synonym for electronic music.Ī classically trained pianist, Moog worked closely with a wide range of musicians to understand what they wanted out of a device for generating electronic music. Instead, “he’s the one who made it mainstream,” says Mark Ballora, professor of music technology at Penn State University. Moog, who died in 2005, did not invent the synthesizer. (It’s unaffiliated with Moog Music, the company her father founded.) Bob Moog at work in the early 1990s. #Bob moog soundsource problme archive#It’s the latest project of the Bob Moog Foundation–the nonprofit archive and educational institution established in 2006 by his youngest daughter, Michelle Moog-Koussa. It celebrates not only Moog’s innovations, but also those of his contemporaries who created the synthesizers and other devices that transformed music beginning in the ’60s and ’70s. This month, celebrating what would be the inventor’s 85th birthday, that storefront reopens as the Moogseum.

Real chalkboard birthday facts11/8/2022 The writing slate was in use in Indian schools as mentioned in Alberuni's Indica ( Tarikh Al-Hind), written in the early 11th century: The study earned Blake a 2006 Ig Nobel Prize. The findings of the study were presented at the Acoustical Society of America conference and support earlier findings from a 1986 study by Vanderbilt psychologist Randolph Blake and two colleagues found that the sound of nails on a chalkboard annoyed people even when the high-pitch frequencies were removed. According to a study run by Michael Oehler, a professor at the University of Cologne, Germany, humans are "predisposed to detest" the sound of nails on a blackboard. The scratching of fingernails on a blackboard, as well as other pointed, especially metal objects against blackboards, produces a sound that is well known for being extremely irritating to most people. Ghosting occurs when old coloured chalk, pastels or chalkpen ink absorbs into the black finish of the board, making it impossible to remove. Chalk sticks shrink through use, and are notorious for breaking in half unless inserted in a writing utensil designed for chalk. The writing on blackboards is difficult to read in the dark. The dust also precludes the use of chalk in areas shared with dust-sensitive equipment such as computers. Some people find this uncomfortable or may be allergic to it, and according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), there are links between chalk dust and allergy and asthma problems. On the other hand, chalk produces dust, the amount depending on the quality of chalk used. Chalk is mostly biodegradable, whereas most plastic recyclers will not take whiteboard markers.Chalk can be easily removed from most clothing whiteboard markers often permanently stain fabric, wood (wood frame), etc.Chalk can be easily erased writing which has been left on a whiteboard for a prolonged period may require a solvent to remove.Chalk writing often provides better contrast than whiteboard markers.Chalk has a mild smell, whereas whiteboard markers often have a pungent odour.Dashed lines can be drawn very quickly using a technique involving the friction of the chalk (or chalk marker) and blackboard. It is easier to draw lines of different weights and thicknesses with chalk than with whiteboard markers.
